Guide to playing Punjab lottery

As a lotto player from India, there are several state lotteries that you’re free to play, one of the oldest being the Punjab lottery.

Believe it or not, it has been running since 1968, and that makes it the second oldest lottery in India.

Yep, this lottery was founded in Zakir Husain Khan’s time.

And since it is basically an ancient lottery, it has been played all across India by millions of lotto players in hopes of winning a big prize.

The most passionate players passed the desire to play it from generation to generation, and that’s why today, there are still Indian lotto players that are fanatics of this lottery.

However, you won’t see Punjab lottery websites. You cannot play online, you need to find retailers in order to participate in the draws.

What is the Punjab lotto?

official punjab state lottery page

The Punjab lottery is controlled by the Finance Department of the state of Punjab.

There are 6 lottery draws that take place in Punjab:

  • Punjab State Diwali Bumper Lottery
  • Sawan Bumper Lottery
  • Holi Bumper Lottery
  • Rakhi Bumper Lottery
  • New Year Lohri Bumper Lottery
  • Baisakhi Bumper Lottery

As you can see, these are all Bumper draws that take place only in certain months of the year. However, in the past, there were weekly and monthly lotteries available too, which are no longer being held.

Just for reference, the lottery jackpot in Monthly Punjab draws was Rs. 2 crores, while in the Weekly Punjab lotto draws Rs. 5 lakhs.

The Finance Department defines each draw or “scheme”, the number of tickets that will be issued, the date and name of the draw that will take place.

On the date of the draw, the Punjabi State Lottery Director can decrease or increase the number of tickets for the draw, after the scheme has been announced.

When there are tickets left unsold, the retailers return them to the director, so that they are not included in the draw.

The draws take place in Ludigarh, in the Zila Parishad building. All winners must present a claim form in addition to documents to verify their identity and ownership before they claim their prize.

You can find Punjab Lottery result on the official lottery homepage. In the picture above you can see what the page looks like and where you can find the results.

The Jackpot

Each of the 6 draws offer different jackpot prizes. The biggest Punjabi jackpot prize you can win, though, is the Rs 3 crore jackpot available for the Holi lottery.

Right next to it is the Diwali draw, which celebrates the homecoming of Lord Rama after 14-year-long exile in the Dandaka Forest. The jackpot prize is Rs 2.5 crore.

The Baisakhi draw celebrates the Vaisakhi festival and gives the lucky winner a top jackpot prize of Rs 2 crore.

The New Year Lohri,  the Sawan and the Rakhi draws all offer a Rs 1.5 crore jackpot prize.

The Payout

Once you have checked the Punjab lottery results and have a winning ticket you are ready to claim your prize.

Considering the Punjab lotteries can only be played by players that reside in India, for the winners to claim their prizes, they need to show up, bring the required identification documents and complete a claim form.

This is a time-consuming procedure that does not exist online. When playing online lotteries you will only need to send in a copy of your aadhaar card and a copy of a recent utility bill once, thereafter all your wins can be claimed within seconds.

Can I Buy Punjab lottery tickets in India?

Punjab lottery is only available in India, and, unlike online lotto games, the only way to purchase tickets to participate in the draws is to buy them from agencies and resellers.

The lottery is not available online, therefore, you can not enjoy this lottery easily from the comfort of your own home. You have to go out and buy a ticket at a shop to participate.

Online lottery ticket purchases can be made within seconds of you deciding that you want to play whereas the state lotteries require more effort.
