Indian Online Lottery Scams
New Article Series: Genuine Lottery or Scam?
You have similar worries about other Indian online lotteries that have questionable websites.
I quickly realized that this is a big problem that needs to be addressed.
One of the worst feelings in the world is to be tricked or scammed.
Sadly, I feel that more and more illegal and scam lottery websites are appearing in India.
This is the backside of the growing popularity of online lotteries.
More players in India are realizing that online lotteries are safer, pay more to winners and give you your money faster.
With the new popularity of online lotteries, there are lots of websites trying to cheat you by using the good reputation of genuine lotto sites.
I have seen quite a few myself but as several tips starting coming in from you readers I felt I had to do something about it.
Therefore I have decided to create a series of articles looking into suspicious lotto websites. Both that I have found and that you have sent me.
I want to help you be able to identify these scam sites as well so in this article, I will go through what I look at to determine if a lottery website is genuine or a scam.
Incidentally, that will also be the name of this series posted here, so welcome to the first official post of “Genuine Lottery or Scam?”
Identifying a Lottery Website Scam
There are several ways to identify if a lottery site is a scam or not.
I took a lot of time trying to decide how I can dissect a website to figure out if it is genuine or not.
The last thing I want to do is damage any hardworking lottery lovers who have taken a big chance to start their own international lottery.
Therefore I took a lot of time to decide what factors actually was a true sign of a deceitful site and what might just be an honest mistake.
After careful consideration, I have mainly looked into four factors that help me determine if a site is genuine or not.
The factors that help me determine if a site is real or not are:
Trust is something that I look into for my regular lottery reviews as well.
It is one of the most important factors and actually the first thing I investigate when it comes to any lottery site, not just the shady ones.
When it comes to online lotteries you can usually decide if you can trust a site based on four things in particular.
I take a close look at:
- Offline presence
- User Reviews
- Security Certificates
Licenses refer to a permit given by a government that allows the website to either sell tickets or make bets on lotteries.
A site without a license is not necessarily bad. It might just be a smaller site that does not have the resources to apply for it.
Offline presence looks into how easy the company behind the website is to find offline.
Is there an office you can visit?
Do they sponsor anyone?
Anything that shows that the people behind the website aren’t trying to hide is enough.
User reviews are an important part as well. A site can look incomplete because they put more money into promotions giving their customers a superior playing experience.
Lots of genuine testimonials usually mean a site that can be trusted.
All the mentioned factors are looked in relation to each other but the most important one is security certificates.
Your details such as personal information and payment details need to be protected. If the site does not have security certificates it’s a big red flag.
It does not matter if the site has the best promotions and service if any hacker can steal your card numbers and empty your account.
The information provided by a lottery website is extremely important.
Serious lottery operators will make sure that everything that you read is true and can be verified.
Also, all the information will make sense and not be contradictory.
This factor seems pretty obvious, right?
The thing is that I have thought a site might be genuine until I have clicked around and seen that they explain the same thing but completely different on two pages.
Most scam sites won’t take the time to make sure that all the information on the site is true.
They can fill it with random texts that they have stolen from genuine sites.
The texts look professional until you actually analyze what they are saying.
When you find a new lottery site, take the time to read what information they have posted.
If it does not make sense or is contradictory to other things they say or if they are just flat out lying most likely it is a scam.
The only lottos we are allowed to play from India are international lotteries that aren’t based in the country or Indian government lotteries.
So even if an Indian private lottery actually pays out there prizes it is a still a scam.
I have seen that Indian online lotteries try to claim that they are somehow sanctioned by the government or that they are based abroad.
Since the only government lottery available online was Playwin you can be sure that anyone saying that are associated with the government is lying.
Now if the site says they are an Indian lottery but based abroad you can easily check if that is true.
There are tools that allow you to check where a website is based just by writing the URL.
I use www.hostingchecker.com, it tells you exactly where the domain is located.
So take the time to check where the company is located so you don’t break any laws.
Also, any wins you might get from illegal lotteries can be confiscated later.
If you spend your win you could later get a huge debt to the government, yikes!
When I say functionality I mean if the webpage itself works properly.
Genuine sites will do everything in their power to make sure all links and features on their site work.
Scam pages, on the other hand, don’t have the same ambition since all they want you to do is deposit money so they can steal it.
If the lottery website you are trying out has links that don’t work or features that are broken you could be on a scam site.
This factor is the least important but it is one of the first things you might notice.
For that reason, it is important to set functionality in relation to the other factors.
A site might just be making updates or someone made an honest mistake.
Now you know both how I determine if an online lottery is scam or not and how to figure it out yourself.
As for now, I have not set a definite amount of posts I will make in this series or when you can expect a post since it depends on your tips and what lotteries I find myself.
If you in the meantime want to try out an honest and genuine online lottery that you can play from India you can check out my favourite below!
Best of luck and until next time, stay safe.
